After two decades of political and economic reconstruction, on 21 April 1967 a team of political officers of army with colonel G. Papadopoylo leading, occupied the power and imposed dictatorship (1967-1974) with a coup.Their motives were the fear of electoral victory of rival politically forces, the "communistic danger", but also the dissatisfaction for the political instability that faced the country in the means of decade 1960.
