ATHENS HISTORY 1944 December

December 1944 representatives of E.A.M., that henceforth had presented his political line, resigned from the Government of National Unit that had been created. At the same time, they called the population in demonstration and strike, because of the English requirement for delivery of arms of E.L.A.S., and the military department of E.A.M. They said "Decembriana", followed where the forces of E.L.A.S. collided with governmental troops that were constituted mainly by English. By the bombardments that occured in Athens a lot of dead and wounded people were pulled out and the entire building square was destroyed. The governmental side was limited in a small region round the Constitution and in a department of road Piraeus near the harbour. Finally the English and the government of G. Papandreou prevailed.
