The rock of Acropolis was the core of the city. The first residents, the Pelasgoi, fortified the hill with walls constituted by enormous blocks of stone, by which they were named Cyclopean. The Prutaneion was, in ancient Athens, the corresponding current municipal palace, and simultaneously a religious centre. The Presidents were the maximum administrative sovereigns and the heads of the Parliaments.
