Philotelia 2005
Sunday 20/02/2005

The National Philatelic Exhibition Philotelia 2005 opens its gates to the Athenian philatelic public. The openings of the exhibition will take place on Wednesday 9 February at 18.00 at the City of Athens Cultural Centre. The exhibition is organized by the Hellenic Philatelic Federation in cooperation with the City of Athens Cultural Organization and it will be concluded on 20 February.

92 exhibitors from Greece and abroad are participating in the Exhibition. The 25 exhibitors with Greek collections from abroad are coming from Canada, Cyprus, Germany, India, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Switzerland, United Kingdom and USA. 101 exhibits mounted in 425 frames will be displayed in Philotelia 2005.

Apart from the exhibits mounted on frames, there are also 24 exhibits of Philatelic Literature: Handbooks, specialized articles, magazines, catalogues or philatelic works in CDs.

The visitors of the exhibition will also have the opportunity to see the famous collection of the renowned British pioneer scholar Theodore Groom, which is exhibited for the first time in public. The collection was formed the first years of the 20th century. Upon the death of its owner, it was bequeathed to the Royal Philatelic Society London and since then it is kept there.

Philotelia 2005, apart from being an exhibition, is at the same time a competition among the exhibits. The Jury evaluates each exhibit and awards the respective medal (Large Gold, Gold, Large Vermeil, Vermeil, Large Silver, Silver, Silver Bronze and Bronze). Exhibits awarded with at least a Vermeil medal are entitled to participate in future international and world philatelic exhibitions.

The exhibition is open to the public every day between 10.00 and 13.00 and between 17.00 and 20.30, except Monday and Sunday afternoon, at the City of Athens Cultural Center (50, Academias str.) The entrance for the public is free.
