ATHENS
FOLK ART MUSEUM Periodic Exhibitions
The Museum of Greek Folk Art organises Periodic Exhibitions with objects coming from the museum's own collections or from elsewhere and displays them on the first floor of the central building.
Currently on display is an exhibition called "Olympos on Karpathos: Ethnographic Pictures of Today". It includes objects from the collections of the Museum of Greek Folk Art, objects which were still in use and were given by the inhabitatnts of Olympos for the purposes of the exhibition, and pictures from the camera lense of Velissarios Voutsas. The exhibition presents aspects of the local culture of Olympos, such as: the place and its architecture, the decorative conception of the houses of Olympos, the social structure, law of heredity, traditional costumes, traditional social events, its lively musical tradition, all of which make up the daily character of the place. The exhibition is accompanied by visual (diaporama) and audio material (local musical and linguistic hearings).
The purpose of the exhibition is to contribute to the promotion and knowledge of a "living culture", the culture of Olympos on Karpathos.
