Pericles, who conceived the dangers of the Dimetopon battle,
recalled the Athenian fleet from Cyprus, after contracting peace
with their Persians thus ensuring access in the Persian harbours.
Later however by the defeat of their fleet (447 b.c.), the
Athenians were compelled to abandon their possessions in
Peloponnese and to stipulate an agreement of peace (445 b.c.) with
the Spartians.
