In 462 B.C. Pericles was placed head of the "republicans" (490-429 b.v.), who achieved the exile of Kimonas by means of ostracism (461 b.c.) Under the influence of Pericles the Athenians were exposed to the Teo-sided (Dimetopo) war, so much against the Persian in Cyprus as against the Spartian, with consequences that shook the powerful Athenian force.
