During the 8th-7th b.c. century the population of Athens was divided in four races, which in turn were subdivided in factions and were distinguished in three orders: in Euratrides (who own acres of land), in the Geomorous (farmers) and in the Dimiourgous (artisans). The races also endured divisions of military nature, naukraries. During this period the growth of Athens in an important naval and craft-based force begins.
