Stone Carving

Vernacular stone carving comprises either individual works (fountains, grave monuments) or architectural elements, which may be divided into functional (door frames, lintels, fanlights) and ornamental members (built in wall slabs).There used to be important stone carving workshops on Chios and Tinos.

Fanlight, stone relief marble lintel. Incised and perforated decoration is used to depict birds, ships and plant motifs. The work of Tinos marble cutters. (Inv. No. 9355)
